Falls Church resident Shahzada Zadran, 19, was playing on a pond in the 60000 block of Erinblair Loop in Haymarket with a group of others when he went through the ice, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

Investigators say that shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, first responders were called to the pond when Zadran and a 20-year-old friend both fell through broken ice and plunged into the frozen water.

The 20-year-old was able to get himself out of the water, but when he searched for Zadran, he was unable to find him. He was able to get to an area home to call the police and was transported by paramedics to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Members of the department were able to locate Zadran in the pond, and he was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. His body has since been transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Officials made note that "at this time, there is no foul play concerning the death investigation."
